Decode Security and Data

In April 2022, Decode Security and Data received a 4-hour ultimatum from their offshore IT provider. Pay up, or lose access to their domain, website, and emails entirely. We took the call late Tuesday afternoon. By Thursday morning, every email was recovered and they were on infrastructure they controlled. Four years later, they're still our client.

Decode Security and Data is a family-run business based in Port Kennedy that keeps Perth homes and businesses secure. They install CCTV systems, alarm systems, video intercoms, and access control across the metro area. Known for quality work and personal service, Decode treats every job like it's protecting their own family. When their IT provider turned from helper to hindrance, they needed someone who understood that business continuity isn't just about technology — it's about trust.

When IT Providers Become the Problem, Not the Solution.

When IT Providers Become the Problem, Not the Solution.

When Your IT Provider Becomes the Threat

Some business disasters strike without warning. Others unfold slowly as you realise the people you trusted are the problem. For Decode Security and Data, what started as a hosting query quickly became a nightmare. Their offshore provider had corrupted their email system, losing client correspondence going back to the start of the business. Instead of fixing the problem, the provider demanded payment and refused to release proper hosting credentials. They supplied only a single compressed archive - not the standard backup format any legitimate host would provide. Meanwhile, the clock was ticking. Without access to emails, Decode couldn't respond to security installation requests or follow up with existing clients. Their domain and website remained under the control of a provider who was now acting more like a ransomware operator than a service partner.

“Perth IT Care literally saved our business in our hour of need”

"We called Adrian late in the day on Tuesday and explained to him that our (now previous) IT providers had lost all of our emails and were now extorting us for money and holding all our information to ransom.

In one very quick phone call both Adrian and Paul leapt into action and by the next morning they had saved our emails and moved us onto a new server. By Thursday, they had gone through our website files with a fine tooth comb to fix the mistakes and corrupt data that our previous provider had used and have us totally up and running business as usual. They took total control of the situation and removed the stress from our plates entirely!

We can't thank them both enough for their speed, transparency and honesty with this whole process and for making us feel heard. They have been invaluable and we wish we had made this change to Perth IT Care ages ago. We are just so glad we found them when we did and hand on heart could not recommend them more highly.

Thank you guys so much."

Why This Matters for Small Businesses.

There's a reason this case study keeps using the word "offshore." When a local provider behaves badly, you have recourse , Australian Consumer Law, Consumer Protection WA, small claims court, professional reputation that travels in a Perth market where word gets around fast. When a provider operates from another country, none of that applies. The 4-hour deadline only worked because Kaz had nowhere to escalate. Local IT support isn't just about the time zone or the accent on the phone , it's about accountability that actually means something.
